Mr Alan Jerome Mr Jerome was educated at Bradford Grammar School and then at Cambridge University, where he did a degree in engineering. He then returned to Bradford in 1956/7 to study textiles before joining the family business, which had been founded by his Grandfather in 1898, as a graduate trainee. He became Chair and Chief Executive in 1985 and retired in 1998 when the company was taken over.
Mr Jerome is hugely committed to the city of Bradford having been born and bred here and served on the city council. He has been involved in local politics since 1970 when he joined Skipton Council. Following local government reorganisation Alan served on Bradford Council from 1974 until 1985 and has been an Addingham parish councillor since 1970. In addition to his work with Appleton Academy, Alan has been a governor of Bradford Grammar School since 1976 and has been Chair since 1986. Alan was also formerly a member of the Council of Bradford University for 15 years and was appointed a Pro-Chancellor in 1996 and Deputy Chairman in 2004.
