This year, Appleton students have once again been spreading some Christmas cheer to the residents of the elderly day centre, which adjoins the school building on the Academy grounds. Gift boxes, containing things as diverse as Christmas food, chocolates, household goods, smellies and even socks and gloves were once again carefully put together for donation to the residents. The tradition of gifting these boxes was started five years ago by former Head of House, Mr Stevens and, with the assistance of donations made by students, staff and parents, we have donated 66 boxes to the centre once again, meaning that each resident receives a wonderful early Christmas gift! The responsibility for coordinating donations, wrapping boxes and getting the gifts to the centre was this year taken up by Ms Lumbers and Miss Emptage with assistance from Mr Hirst - Head of Hoy House. Almost every member of the Academy's community has made a donation, whether small or large and on Thursday 15 December, all of that effort, hard work and goodwill was rewarded when the students of HY6, representing the whole Academy, delivered the boxes to the day centre. Gallery As you can see from the comments below, the gifts were, as ever, well received and helped make Christmas that little bit more special for members of our local community. "I would like to thank all of the children who thought about us and made the lovely Christmas boxes" "I would very much like to thank you all for the Christmas parcels. I believe it must have taken some time to prepare and pack them, they were gratefully received" "To the students , staff and parents; please accept my sincere thanks for the gift box" "Thank you to the children at Appleton Academy for the lovely gift at Christmas" "Thank you very much for the super parcel. So many young people receive bad publicity these days but this proves that there are a lot of very thoughtful youngsters around" "A really kind thought that is much appreciated, the goods will really come in handy - thank you" |
