Academies are set up as companies limited by guarantee with charitable status. Each Academy is under the control of its governing body, which has a clearly defined strategic role in shaping its success.

As an independent school, Appleton Academy is set up as a charitable company to give governors broader scope and responsibility for ethos, strategic direction and challenge.

Mr Leon Riley - Acting Chair and Sponsor Governor:  Appointed by the Bradford College Education Trust his Term of Office is 4 years running from April 2015 until April 2019.  Mr Riley left his role as governor in October 2016 due to his appointment to the role of Principal at a Further Education College.

Mr Shailesh Ravjibhai - Parent Governor:  Appointed by parents at Apppleton Academy through ballot his Term of Office is 4 years running from October 2012 to October 2016.  Mr Ravjibhai left his role as governor at the end of his elected term as Parent Governor.

Mr Kevin McGuinness - Sponsor Governor:  Appointed by the Bradford College Education Trust his Term of Office is 4 years running from September 2013 to September 2017.  Mr McGuinness left his role as governor in October 2016 following his retirement and subsequent commitments conflicting with the role.

Mr Michael Walsh - Former Chair and Sponsor Governor:  Appointed by the Bradford College Education Trust, Mr Walsh left his role as governor in October 2015 due to his relocation to another role outside of the Trust.
