Partnerships

Appleton Academy working with the wider community.

Appleton Academy is working very closely with its partner primaries and has provided 5 local schools with £1,000 to carry out a sports or science based project. The lucky schools are, Hill Top C of E Primary School, Low Moor Primary C of E School, Shirley Manor Primary School, Woodlands C of E Primary School and Worthinghead Primary School.

As well as this funding boost the Academy will also be providing each of these schools additional specialist support in a variety of areas from Science and Sport, to languages (Spanish and French), ICT, drama, and design technology throughout the Spring and Summer terms.

Mr Bott has been working with Year 5 and year 6 pupils at Low Moor since Christmas teaching Spanish on a Thursday afternoon and the lessons have been so popular he has now started an afterschool Spanish club to extend the pupils learning even further! Well done and a big thank you to Mr Bott from all of the pupils at Low Moor that have enjoyed his lessons.

How are the primary schools spending their £1,000?

Hill Top C of E Primary School – The school is using their funding boost to help send their Year 4 pupils to Bradford Ice Skating Rink to have ice skating lessons every Tuesday afternoon for the entire year! When asked about their experiences during their ice skating lessons the pupils were very positive, “I love ice skating and I am getting good at it”, “Thank you Appleton Academy for giving us some money for ice skating”, “I really like ice skating and like hitting the puck around the ice with the hockey stick”, “I couldn’t skate at first, but now I really enjoy ice skating. Thank you”.

In September when the pupils started ice skating only two pupils could ice skate and now every year 4 pupil is confident on the ice and can even skate backwards! The pupils are now even beginning to play ice hockey as the pictures show.

Low Moor Primary C of E School
– The year one pupils at Low Moor have benefited from the provision of a fantastic new outdoor play house and equipment that has been provided using the funding from Appleton Academy. We hope you have fun playing and learning in this new outdoor area.

Shirley Manor Primary School
– The has chosen to use their money to help fund the Year 6 residential at the end of the Spring term. Let us know how it went and we will hopefully have some pictures to include in our next issue.

Woodlands C of E Primary School
– In the Spring and summer terms Woodlands will be using their money to buy some sports and science equipment and will then have staff from Appleton Academy visit the school to deliver ‘Master Class’ lessons using the new equipment.

Worthinghead Primary School
– Worthinghead is also going to use their funding to provide outdoor provision for their younger pupils to help ensure they have access to an exciting and stimulating outdoor environment all year around. We look forward to visiting and seeing your outdoor space in use!
