Post 16

In 2016-2017 Appleton Academy Post 16 students achieved the best ever academic and vocational results:

  • The overall academic pass rate was 97.8% with 65% of students achieving A*-C grades, the highest in the Academy's history.
  • The vocational pass rate was 100% with 78% of students achieving a Distinction/Distinction*.
  • Progress made in vocational qualifications was significantly above national.
  • As a result of their success students who wanted to go on to Higher Education all went to their first choice university.
  • Destinations included Russell Group Universities, including Liverpool and York.
  • 74% of these students were the first in their family to access Higher Education.

Destinations 2013-2014

Our students continued to raise the bar and 27% of students joined apprenticeships or the workplace and 73% went on to Higher Education with the following institutions:

Bradford College/Bradford University/Huddersfield University/Leeds Met University/The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)

63% of our students went into apprenticeships or took up a career.  37% of the Academy's students went onto Higher Education with the following Colleges and Universities:

Bradford College/Kirklees College/Bradford University/Huddersfield University/Leeds Met University

Of those students going on to study at university, all were the first members of their family to do so and the Academy is incredibly proud that our aim to raise aspiration and achievement in Wyke has had such demonstrable effects. 

Careers

Appleton Academy works closely with C&K Careers who provide high quality, impartial information, advice and guidance to young people from ages 13-19.

We have our own Careers Adviser, who works with Appleton Academy focusing on students who are choosing GCSE options and those moving on from Year 11 and Year 13.
