The Academy will be holding a careers fair on 12 July 2016 from 11am to 3.30pm.

Current Year 11 and 13 students are invited to attend to discuss next steps for September 2016.  We will have advice about college, university and the work place with visits from colleagues providing useful advice and resources.

The Academy Cheerleading Squad recently entered its first competition as a whole school team when taking part in a Bradford Schools Contest. The Academy had teams competing in three categories: Primary, Secondary Pom and Secondary Stunt.

The Primary team took on fifteen other schools in what was their first ever competitive event.  They faced some schools whose teams had over five years of competition experience but, despite this, the team managed a fantastic second place finish!  This was a wonderful and exciting first experience for the team who are raring to go for their next competition.

Secondary Pom were competing in the elite category against some extremely strong teams and a close contest ensued with the Academy grabbing first place by 0.25 points!  The team have now secured their place in the final of the West Yorkshire Youth Games.

We also had another team making their competitive debut in the shape of the Secondary Stunt team with the girls executing a fantastic and difficult routine to claim second place and also secure a place at the West Yorkshire Youth Games!

All the children and young people who make up the teams had a fantastic experience and did the Academy proud, many in what was their first event.  The sportsmanship and spirit that the teams showed was an inspiration and we would like to congratulate them all on their success.  We would also like to thank Ms Briggs and Ms Thompson for their support and effort in preparing the teams.

Academy students and staff have been working hard on looking at ways that we can be more repsonsible for our carbon footprint and the effect on the community.  Your children may have mentioned that one of the ways we have identified is a 'Clothes Share' helping to recycle goods and items that may be of use to others.

The Clothes Share is this Thursday 25th February from 3.30pm in the Academy canteen. We would like children and their families to attend.  We are keen to meet our objectives and the aim of the Clothes Share is to recycle unwanted clothes.  We have lots of clothes, uniform and some accessories and shoes to give away for FREE.  Some items have never been worn.  Please come along and see what’s up for grabs!

Ofsted have informed the Academy that they will be inspecting Appleton on Wednesday 2 March 2016.  Details have been distributed to all parents via text and in a letter home.  The letter can be found by clicking on the link below and is accompanied by a guide to school inspections:

The Academy is extemely proud to celebrate the success of our Year 12 student Harleen Kaur who recently returned from the World Kickboxing Championships in Malta as a silver medal winner!

Representing England and competing in her first major world championships in the open age category; Harleen lived up to the promise she has shown on the domestic scene and fought her way to the gold medal match.  Harleen was only pipped for the ultimate glory by her Mexican opponent in a tense final fight.

Nonetheless, everyone at Apppleton is extremely proud of Harleen and her achievements and we look forward to her going on and becoming world champion in the not too distant future!
