We would like to thank all parents, children and students for your patience and understanding today.  The level of illness we have experienced amongst staff and students has been unprecedented.  The decision to close the Academy was not one that was taken lightly.  However, as a result of the number of people having to leave due to being sick or feeling unwell, we were left with little choice but to take this extraordinary action.
We are aware that there has been some speculation about what has caused people to be unwell.  We would like to reassure everyone that, having spoken to a number of partners, we believe that this sickness bug is a viral illness that has spread as a result of someone unknowingly coming to school while unwell.  We take cleanliness and hygiene extremely seriously and hold our cleaning and catering colleagues to the highest standards.  We do not believe this bug has come about because of any lack of care or attention to these areas.
Nevertheless, due to the high number of people who have actually been unwell while at school today, we have arranged for our cleaning and site staff to undertake a thorough clean of the building, which will be completed on Friday afternoon.  We expect to open as normal on Monday.
We hope that everyone who has been unwell gets better quickly.  If anyone is ill over the weekend, we would ask parents to keep children at home for a full 48 hours after this has passed.  This will allow us to ensure that the bug does not continue to spread.
We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience the decision to close today has caused.  If you do have any further concerns, please contact us on 01274 600550 on Monday.
