Website Accessibility Statement

This website is run by Appleton Academy, part of Exceed Academies Trust, and this statement applies to www.appletonacademy.co.uk. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings

  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen

  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software

  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Accessibility Features

  • Keyboard Navigation: The website is navigable via keyboard to accommodate users who cannot use a mouse.

The content listed below is not fully accessible for the following reasons.

Navigation and interactive elements

Some navigation elements, including menu controls and icon-based buttons, may not provide sufficient text alternatives for users of screen readers or other assistive technologies.

Colour contrast

In some areas of the website, text and background colour combinations do not fully meet recommended contrast ratios. This can affect readability for users with visual impairments.

Images and decorative content

Some images used for decorative purposes do not include alternative text. Where images convey important information, we aim to provide appropriate text alternatives.

Documents

Some older PDF documents and downloadable files are not fully accessible to screen reader software. We aim to ensure that new documents published to the website are accessible by default. Historic documents may not be remediated unless they are required to access the Trust’s services or are specifically requested in an alternative format.

Embedded and third-party content

Some embedded content, such as maps, videos, sliders, or externally hosted material, may not be fully accessible or compatible with all assistive technologies.

These issues mean the website does not fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards. Some accessibility issues arise from the design of legacy templates and third-party components used across the website. We are working with our website provider to address identified issues and will prioritise fixes where they relate to essential information or core functionality.

School exemption

  • primary and secondary schools or nurseries - except for the content people need in order to use their services, for example a form that lets you outline school meal preferences.

 

 

What we're doing to improve accessibility

Appleton Academy is committed to improving the accessibility of this website. We are doing this by:

  • working with our website provider to address identified accessibility issues
  • prioritising improvements that affect navigation, readability, and access to essential information
  • ensuring new content and documents are created with accessibility in mind
  • reviewing accessibility when website templates or functionality are updated
  • considering feedback from users who experience difficulty accessing information

Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we recognise that further improvements will be needed over time.

Testing this website

 

This website has been checked for accessibility using informal internal testing, including the use of freely available automated accessibility-checking tools and basic manual checks such as keyboard navigation and screen zoom.

Automated tools can identify potential accessibility issues but may not capture all barriers or distinguish between decorative and functional content. Findings are reviewed and prioritised based on their impact on users’ ability to access essential Trust information and services.
